Photo Period: Why it is so important to cannabis!

One of the most important things ins the flowering stage is total darkness in the 12 hours while the lights are out, or dep is on, or at night. Countless gardens have been destroyed by flashlights, faulty timers, forgetting so flip of the light switch, and light leaks! LIGHT LEAKS!!! Check your panda!! Make sure there are no tears, no light leaks, absolute darkness. It was recommended by Indoor Marijuana Growers book to go in the room with the lights off, stand there for 5 minutes. You are looking for ANY light coming in. I have done this many many times with a roll of Gorilla Tape in hand, ready to fix any holes.

A popular product for indoor gardeners is called Panda Film or a similar 5.5ml plastic that is white on one side and black on the other. The white side reflects as much as 90% of the light back to the plants. While the Black side keeps all light out. When done right this plastic can seal up a room and make it light proof and keep it cleaner.

Be aware of outside light sources

When outdoors its important to place plants where outside light sources will not be reaching them. Things like streetlights and lights from the neighbors can disrupt the sleeping stage of the cannabis plant. Too much or too frequent of light can cause reverting of branches or the entire plant back to vegetative stage or even worse, cause the plant to "hermi" out.

The term refers to hermaphroditic occurrences. Cannabis plants are defined as "Male" pollen spreaders or "female" pollen receivers. Cannabis growers often remove all male plants and keep females to prevent pollination. Sinsemilla is seedless cannabis. When a female plant is deprived of pollen its "Stresses" and produces more resins in an attempt to collect valuable pollen, a desired affect. But even this is a balance because cannabis can produce male pods in small "banana" clusters that can be extremely hidden, or hermi an entire branch when there are no males around. Cannabis plants are tricky and finicky.

Keep it dark!!

It is something you can be proactive about to help ensure the best end results. There are no corners to cut in growing cannabis. The effort you put in is what will be returned to you! It can be very enjoyable, rewarding and fulfilling as a hobby! It can also be heartbreaking at times. The things that are in your control, keep that way and take advantage! Keep it dark at night!

I would love to hear your feedback, thoughts I forgot, questions or comments. Please, tell me and everyone reading your opinion on cannabis and photo period! For more information on environmental control see that section!
